Arthur hates it when people steal from him without good cause. Although he may be a pirate plundering the world he isn’t cold hearted enough not to realize so people are worse off than him. The final thing he hates is when people insult his family. To him his family is the greatest of value.
Motivations: Arthur never wants to be poor again. He doesn’t want his daughter growing up poor like him either nor does he want her living the life of a common peasant. He couldn’t bare thought of losing his daughters love. That perhaps is his greatest fear. That he would one day never more receive his daughters love. It would probably be his demise. Arthur strives to make sure this is never so.
History:
The lands Arthur Kirkland was born in was poisoned and rotting from the inside outside as the people of Hana chose to seal off their “experiment.” They deemed the land unworthy of even being considered savable and left the tainted lands. The lands he grew up in were long dead and the people have all been deprived of lives worth living. Many fled. Some remained. All but few survived. Those that did were no better than the rouge ninja’s, ex-military or thieves claiming the desolate lands as their own. Arthur grew up a thief and murderer in what he painfully now calls his homeland.
Arthur Kirkland was birth by a local prostitute Helena Grace. Arthur Kirkland was one of the babies affected by Hana’s experiments as he was born without his right eye. The baby although was kept by his loving mother. Helena cared a great deal for her son as any mother would. Helena tried her best to raise her son even if her occupation held little pay and the area they housed in was dangerous in more than one way. Helena even began of saving money to escape the hellish lands. This would be a fruitless offer for what the years had in stored for Arthur Kirkland.
At the age of four Arthur was kidnapped his mother fought the kidnappers bravely, but failed to keep her child safe. The kidnappers took the boy as a slave. The first of the two kidnappers was a woman unable to give birth and the second a burly man with a very short temper. The man holding the Helena done managed to choke her unconscious as she fought for her child. The two kidnappers with infant in hand left the shack he and his mother lived in. Arthur would never meet his mother.
The first three years with his masters were pleasant to say the least as they had to nurse him since he was a baby. The two kidnappers first brought the child to Yokuchigakure to sell in the black market. No buyers wanted a useless infant, so the two were stuck. The woman named Nollia was very concerned with the health of the boy as he had a missing eye. The man calling himself Itou wanted it gone knowing they would soon have rid themselves of the infant. Nollia fought this idea unable to be the cause of death for the innocent life.
Nollia managed to persuade Itou from abandoning the baby it was decided the boy would be their slave. Although Nollia showed mercy in that instance she would never show such a thing to Arthur again. At the age of seven the two bandits brought Arthur to a pirate ship where they could lay low after just killing a man in a failed pickpocket attempt. The boy was put to work. He washed the decks to the dishes from the messes other sailors made to his own. Arthur held no malice or anger towards his owners for this is all he knew.
Arthur grew up not with spankings, but lashes and beatings. Itou despised the fact he had to raise Arthur even if all he did was beat him for the tiniest reasons. Nollia in the other hand was too wrapped up in herself vanity to even acknowledge this fact. Not that she would stop the beatings. She would sooner join in then stop it. Arthur still held no resentment towards the two. He didn’t hate them. He wasn’t allowed to.
At the age of nine Itou died during a ship raid of a rival pirate ship. Nollia had thrown overboard the year before for being utterly useless. The captain of the ship, Captain Colibas at the time whom had been watching for years watching the situation stepped in adopting the boy.
Colibas unlike the previous two before him was kind and warm. He taught Arthur how to read, write, count, speak properly and how to fight. Colibas went as far as christening the child with his surname Kirkland. In many ways Arthur considered him a father and loved him so. The kindness Colibas showed Arthur inspired him to be a pirate. Colibas disapproving of this conjured a plan for a better life for his son.
Colibas being quite famous himself for his adventures had many friends whom owned him favors. The Captain Colibas had decided to smuggle
Arthur into the first class country of Hanagakure where a friend would be waiting to raise him. Arthur at the time objected as he didn’t want to leave his father’s side, but as the captain of the ship ordered otherwise. The boy raised his whole life as a pirate held one rule follow captains orders. Now with orders Arthur couldn’t object like a dog he followed the commanded to travel to the land of Hanagakure.
Smuggling into the country was relatively easy for the friend who owed favors was a powerful man within the land of cherry blossoms. The man known as Hanako greeted Arthur with such grace and class it felt as if someone had just dunked him into cold water. Hanako was a tall man in his late fifties. His stature matched his class as he introduced him to his luxurious mansion. The place was by far the most beautiful thing he seen in his entire life so he thought until he saw the girl of true beauty and grace pass by him staring at the filthy pirate.
Arthur dumbstruck by her beauty smiled widely like a fool just as the maids and servants gather behind him only to drag him away from the girl who will forever forth have his heart. The maids rushing him into the most extravagant washroom he had ever seen quickly stripped him of his clothing as they pushed him into a small pool. It smelled of exotic and expensive oils which instantly cleansed the grime from his body. The maids showed no mercy with the brushes that scrubbed him without sympathy.
Hanako eating watched closely at the now properly groomed boy awkwardly eat foods he had never seen before. Hanako laughing knew from Colibas that he has spent more time in sea than on land. Hanako also noticed Arthur glancing over at his daughter every few seconds. Gracefully eating his food silently he thought about the things this boy would have to do to live a normal life. Farfetched as it may be this is the promise he was forced into. It surprised Hanako that Colibas had a child. It further surprised when he received a letter asking to guide the boy to live a normal life.
Spending five years learning new languages, histories, mathematics, and sciences of Hanagakure taught Arthur that education wasn’t his favorite thing in life. At times he thought of running away, but couldn’t because he was afraid he would never see her again. Hanako’s daughter was Elizabeth Hanako and to Arthur she was the only woman that he could see in his dreams. They had gotten very close over the past five years. Now eighteen he wanted to ask Hanako if he could marry his daughter, but was far too afraid of being denied.
Now an adult Arthur had to choices the first being he goes find a profession using the vast knowledge he has gathered studying for the past five years or join the military. Arthur without hesitating joined the military to his father’s dismay. Just as he was leaving he received the most heart enthralling words he has ever heard from another being, “I love you.” And the one to speaking to him was none other than his Elizabeth. A departure kiss was given as he left to train for the military in very high spirits.
Two years passed with intense training to join the naval force. Arthur already used to hard labor and following orders found military life easy.
Many others seemed only to complain or dislike the orders given to them. Arthur didn’t care for he had heard that weapons here are cutting edge along with the airships. Airships are new to the world so only the daring use these contraptions as they have been known to fail. Though that never stopped the military from mass producing air battleships. The time being around Christmas Arthur was allowed on leave for the holidays. Arthur couldn’t wait at the time to see his dearest Elizabeth.
Christmas Eve came and went with the expectancy of a new child.
Hanako not surprised by allowed a marriage to be undergone by the two lovers. They married within the next few weeks. Arthur still a military man had to return to active duty. His tour lasted five years without ever having seen his daughter. The years apart from the two was torturous as he longed to see his daughter and wondered if she inherited his strength or speed?
At the age of twenty-six he meet his five year old daughter.
Overwhelmed by joy as he watched his daughter playing in the Hanako’s family garden Arthur ran to her as he opened his arms to greet her with a hug. It was a terrible mistake to do so as she quickly turned frighten by her father and threw him over a railing. She had in faceted inherited his strength. Elizabeth watching quickly explained who the man was and why he was gone for so long. The little girl crying that she had just thrown her own father over a railing tried explaining she was only scared.
Forgiveness came naturally as Arthur spent the following year with his daughter and wife. Arthur had also visited his father who became gravely ill. Colibas left everything he owned to his adopted son which in turn gave Arthur the determination of hording a treasures as never before. This he swore as he watched his father quietly pass into the next world in his sleep.
The following year he met his brother who kindly explained his birth and where he was really from. Though it didn't matter to Arthur as this only fueled his determination for wealth as no other has ever achieved. [/spoiler]
RP Sample: "RUM!" yelled the boisterous man named Arthur has took a deep swig from the bottle. His lack of balance made it very difficult for him hold his cutlass. His opponent was a officer of some sort. He couldn't remember as to why the officer stopped him or how it ended with drawn blades. All he knew was that the officer had asked, "What have you been drinking?!" Which in all rights was enough of offense for Arthur to raise his arm in combat. Almost falling over on one side Arthur as he thought over the situation Arthur yelled out with angry as he rushed toward the officer, "You are a stupid policeman!"
