General Description: Marquetta, while blind, has shown an increased like for the color green - probably due to where her clan originated from. Her usual attire starts with her hair being up in a ponytail as she hates to allow it to get in her way. A green top with long sleeves is normally covered by a tan tunic of sorts. Shorts that go halfway down her calves help to complete her attire; with her feet covered in matching green cloth - except for the bottoms of her feet which are left bare as to allow her clan ability to be used.
All in all her outfit screams tomboyish; in which she doesn't care in the slightest. However, she can still be considered beautiful, able to pull the look off well: as well as fierce.Marquetta recently underwent a serious change upon the awakening of her Jun Chi side; brought around by a very argumentative and violent confrontation with her mother and who she believed at that time to be her father. Since then Marqeutta has gained the ability to see; eyes no longer white and now like liquid gold. Her hair that was once dark and dull has started to turn red and resemble the beginnings of flames. Her skin has darkened due to the time she has spent in her new village.
Her clothing choices of changed as well. While still barefoot (the heat of the sand no longer able to affect her) she had changed her clothing color to white. A white top trimmed in gold that ties behind her neck covers her top with a black undershirt beneath this. Long shorts that go just below her knees are a white-gray in color, with the ends trimmed in gold. Her right forearm is wrapped in white tape due to it being her dominate hand and she wears a fingerless tan glove that stops at her wrist in that hand. Her left hand is covered in a black fingerless glove that goes about halfway up her forearm. On both wrists she wears a gold bangle, and in both ears she wears an assortment of earrings. if one were to get close enough on her stomach, twisting in a pattern that resembles a circle, is a dragon: the mark of the beast sealed recently inside of her, and looking as if it were burnt, jet black, into her flesh. Fingernails and toenails are colored gold: the first color she saw upon realizing she was no longer blind, and thus her favorite color.
About You!
Personality: Marquetta is fiercely independent, sarcastic, direct, stubborn, and confrontational. She has a carefree and adventurous personality, and is very tomboyish in the way she acts and dresses in contrast to the delicate doll her parents see her as. Capable of making most females uncomfortable due to little things such as the fact that her feet are constantly dirty - something that tends to happen due to the Yanagi having to constantly be barefoot.
Marquetta loves battling and takes great pride in the skills she has inherited from the clan. She always seems eager to prove herself, especially to prove that she's just as strong and battle ready as anyone who has the ability to see. In battle she can come across as exceptionally ruthless, and determined.
Marquetta isn't one to take pity from others especially when dealing with her blindness; and will attempt to do things on her own when ever possible. She's brutally honest when criticizing others, finding no reason to lie or sugar coat things when speaking of where someone can improve - and expects the same in return.
Marquetta has shown countless times in the past that she's a quick leaner. Her courage and loyalty to her friends knows no bonds. She can come across as tough, unyielding and steadfast when in battle - especially when defending those she cares about.
Marquetta had high self confidence and self esteem. She's well-educated in the manners and bearings of high-society - she merely consciously and constantly chooses to ignore them, especially when she knows it bothers someone.
Likes: There is nothing Marquetta likes more than being herself; being able to be her without someone having something to say about it.
There is nothing greater to her than a good fight that will leave both her and her opponent dirty, covered in scrapes and bruises. The sort of fight that leaves both opponents exhausted, but with the experience to better themselves.
Marquetta isn't above doing things that others would consider risky. She's a bit of a daredevil, willing to take on any dare; especially those that include such things as climbing mountains, cliff diving, and the like.
Marquetta loves to eat: food is one of her favorite things in the world. Meat and desert happen to be her favorite types of food, though she isn't above a good cabbage roll, or rice ball.
Marquetta also loves to travel - though not so much with her parents due to their more higher-class antiques. She enjoys the several trips a year that they get to make to various villages to meet with cousins from the other clans closely connected to their own.
Dislikes: High-class society. It would have to be the one thing able to get under her skin more than anything else. Despite being born into a very well-to-do family Marquetta shuns everything about her upbringing. Hard work and labor are not beneath her as those things are beneath her family and her family's friends. Marquetta has even sunk so low as to do things on purpose to anger her parents or embarrass them when she feels they're acting too high and mighty - such as picking her toes in public, allowing her feet to be more than exceptionally dirty, burping, or otherwise showing a lack of table manners.
Marquetta also has an exceptionally dislike of those who purposely act down and out just so that they can live off of the pity of others. She feels that if she is able to over come her own disability of being blind and on her own to boot then no one else has a right to live off of pity.
Motivations: The idea of letting no one stop her is a great motivation for Marquetta. She refuses to allow her blindness to stop her or prevent her from doing anything. It's the reason she pushes herself so hard in battle and in training; it's the reason why even though she may look defeated or broken she continues to get up and dust herself off - no matter how hard of a struggle it is to do so.
She refuses to lay down and take a loss, even a paid one. She has vowed on many occasions that she'd rather live one day as a lion than a thousand on her knees as a lamb.
Fears: Marquetta fears losing. It's not the loss itself that she fears, but what it might represent. She fears disappointing her friends, or not being able to be enough for them - and in losing that is exactly what she feels she would be doing.
She fears her disability getting the best of her - causing her to have to give up the life style that she loves and forcing her into the exact life style that her parents want her to have - being babied by them and taken care of by them until the rest of their days. It's the sort of fear that has brought many nights of nightmares for the young girl.
History: Marquetta, unlike other Yanagi, was actually born blind; something that was called a curse within her upper class family, all of whom had perfectly functional eyesight. Her parents feared, despite her being a very healthy baby, that she wouldn't live to see her first birthday. But, her first birthday came and went, and Marquetta grew bigger and stronger with every passing year.
By the time she was a toddler she was already showing signs of her exceptionally high affinity with Doton; and was more than eager to smash bugs, or destroy the many glass flower pots that her mother had lying around the garden. While this would normally make any Yanagi parent exceptionally happy her parents were horrified. They considered her actions barbaric at best, too low for her daughter. Because of this they started keeping her inside when ever possible, and keeping her as far away from any form of Doton as could be.
They tried to brainwash her so to speak into believing that she shouldn't go around dirty and constantly causing some ruckus or another. However, perhaps because of how stubborn Marquetta was, this never worked - if anything it caused her to act out on purpose, or act a certain way when people were around just because she knew that it bothered her parents. However, this caused her parents to hide her away, to keep her secret from the rest of the world, and to treat her like some valuable breakable doll - something which Marquetta hated with a passion.
When old enough to go to school her parents forbade it, but Marquetta snuck out anyway. Not enrolled she spent the majority of her time sitting outside of classroom windows and listening - up until a high ranking school official caught her, realized the situation and the amount of skill that she had in her particular area, and demanded her parents allow her the schooling she needed. They attempted to fight it of course, but eventually gave in when they realized they couldn't win.
Marquetta excelled in school, proving to be an exceptionally quick learner; sparring one of her favorite things to do, though the knowledge based factors never escaped her either. Shortly into her schooling everyone began to refuse to face her, fearing the broken bones and bruises she often gave other children when they were placed up against her - something she did so that she could prove that just because she was blind, which was common knowledge at that point, she could still fight and still win.
She graduated ahead of her class, becoming the first Genin in her family in generations. She was assigned a squad and thrived; using the time spent on missions as a way to get away from her over-bearing and over protective parents. Even missions that caused the rest of her squad to groan - such as having to rescue the neighbors cat, put up flyer's, pick up trash while cleaning up the local parks, repainting walls that punk kids had spray painted - gave her great delight because it was another reason to be out of the house, and a way to earn money: she had started saving from the moment she became a Genin in the hopes of moving out of her parents house as quickly as possible.
Due to Marquetta's showmanship on the field and the things willing to do for her squad, and the fact that she proves quickly to be a capable leader she is promoted to Chuunin within a year of becoming a Genin and graduating the Academy. Now onto tougher and harder assignments she proves her unwillingness to back down. Leading a squad into a battle of any kind is something that comes as second nature to the female. She quickly becomes known around her homeland as being the type of leader to never leave without every single member of their squad with them.
Due to constantly being able to prove herself on one successful mission after another Marquetta Yanagi is soon promoted again, this time to Special Jounin. Finally able to make enough money with missions to move out of her parents house she does just that - though she doesn't move far. Her parents have gotten up in the years since she has started her ninja career, and she plans on keeping a careful eye on them - no matter how much they might drive her nuts.
As the yearly trip to go visit Yokuchi comes back, Marquetta finds herself returning after another mission. The trip is to be an easy one, and they're able to finally go to go meet up and visit with the Jun Chi: as well as get to explore a village that many have not seen in a long while. Even though it means traveling with her parents Marquetta agrees that she's still going - it's an opportunity she's not willing to miss, especially as it means some time with her cousins.
On their way through the tunnels for the visit the party of twelve - four elders, five adults, one teenager which is Marquetta herself, and two small children - are ambushed by a group of bandits looking to rob them. While the elders and her parents are more than willing to hand over their goods until the promise of not being attacked Marquetta steps up and takes control of the situation, demanding that the bandits leave. The group of theives laughs at her, and upon telling her to take her blind ass home - since she was wearing a cloth around her eyes at the same - she attacks. In a show of power not seen in a long time within the Yanagi clan she dominates the bandits, breaking them to the point of no return with her Yanagi clan techniques. The group with her is stunned, but not for reasons she originally thinks as she picks up on the vibe from everyone: the elders are displeased with her parents for hiding her talent for so long, and scold them for keeping such a prodigy such as herself to themselves.
With the bandits out of the way the trip continues on to Yokuchi where all - but Marquetta's parents who are stewing over their scolding from the elders - have a great time, and where Marquetta gets to visit on one of those rare visits with her favorite cousins. When the trip is over the group leaves, sticking to the tunnels as to avoid the plague; with the elders putting Marquetta in the front to lead the way home. They return home without incident, and the elders speak with the Kage concerning the whole situation.
Before Marquetta hears of what the Kage has said, which dealt with promoting her to Jounin, she is sent off on yet another mission, leading a squad against the greatest threat she has ever had to face. They come up against three rouge ninja who, after burning down their small village, escaped, and have been causing all sorts of havoc and mayhem since. Vowing to put them down before they can cause the same sort of damage, destruction, and chaos to their own homeland, the group takes on the biggest opponents they have ever faced. The battle is long and hard, but won. The group returns, battered but alive, to their village. The report, which Marquetta gives herself and which her team backs up, earns her another promotion: high ranked Jounin.
With more than enough rank beneath her now, Marquetta bids fair well, and after gaining permission to leave, does exactly that. Off to explore the world, and right on time... as the plague that had been ravishing it is gone. Now, it's simply where her feet can take her, she'll go...
