All the information you need for Items, Weapons, Armors, Poisons, and Acids are found in this guide. Weapon Technicians have their own guidelines.
Items
Anything that is not an outright weapon nor a type of armor is considered a general item. The vast majority of creations will fall in this area, as will all items of a medical nature. for example: scalpels are considered general items, not weapons; however an actual knife would be a weapon; no matter it's intended function.
The template for general items is simple enough:
Name:Rank:Description: - Code:
-
[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Rank:[/b]
[b]Description:[/b]
Items are priced dependent on their general rank, as well as what they do. The more complex an item, the higher the rank, and the more expensive. However, there are cases in which the pricing will be done under special circumstances; and as such are up to Admin decision. These prices may change as time goes on, depending on the needs of the site.
E-Rank: 0-100 ryo
D-rank: 0-300 ryo
C-rank: 300-600 ryo
B-rank: 600-1000 ryo
A-rank: 1000-1500 ryo
S-rank 1500 ryo- 5000 ryo
SS-rank: 5000 ryo +
This general guideline is also in effect for customized weaponry and armor; so make sure you can afford the items before you attempt to purchase them.
Weapons
Certain weapons, depending on nature, will be allowed to be used by any specialization. If a weapon is locked to a specialization, it will remain locked to that specialization (Swords and bows). If a new specialization for a certain weapon is introduced, who were approved before implementation will be grandfathered in. All others will have to have the specialization.
As I said, certain weapons will be allowed to be used, regardless of specialization. Things like
Gloves
Claws
Daggers/knives
Staffs
Spikes/Stake
Hand Scythe/Sickle
Now, mind you, simply because you wield a weapon, does not mean you are all powerful with it. Someone with Taijutsu, if at equal rank as you, will be better than you with a weapon. Why? Because, Taijutsu gives you the physical strength and endurance to properly utilize a weapon for extended periods of time.
In addition, certain weapons will require Taijutsu to use, no matter what. Things like
Scythes (Two-handed Reaper Scythe)
Spears
War Hammers
Maces
Axes
If you would like to app a weapon that doesn't fit into the 'normal' category, feel free. However, it will be Admin discretion as to if the weapon is allowable as far as site standard, and whether you are able to use it or not. Rulings are final.
As for generic weapons; the weapon catalog will be updated as we are able too; and as needed. The vast majority of basic weapons will be found there; and what is there is allowed to be slightly changed (minor cosmetic changes). Anything not in the catalog at any given time may be created using the
Self Creation Template. Any weapon you feel should be in the catalog but isn't may be created using the same template; and submitted to an admin for review. If it works, we'll add it. The general idea for the strength of a weapon is as follows:
D Rank: Very basic weaponry like kunai and senbon.
C Rank: Somewhat more advanced and powerful weaponry; such as staffs and Fuma Shuriken
B Rank: More advanced and higher quality weapons; such as swords, axes, and war fans. Weapons of this rank may be used in conjunction with Chakra Flow.
A Rank: Weaponry with inherent elemental affinity. (All legendary weaponry starts as A-rank)
S Rank: Weaponry with inherent chakra abilities. (Example: Raijin Blades)
SS Rank: Extremely powerful; almost god-like weaponry (Example: Tools of the Sage of the Six Paths)
Custom Creation of weapons and items is allowed, and encouraged in many ways. If you’re going to take the time to use a weapon, might as well make it your own right? Template for custom creation is as follows:
Name: (Obvious.)
Type: (What type of weapon is it?)
Rank: (What rank is the weapon?)
Upgrade Slots: (How many empty slots does it have?)
Affinities: (Does it start with an elemental affinity?)
Description: (What does the weapon look like? You must provide at LEAST 1 paragraph (50 words minimum) description, even if you have an accompanying image.)
Enhancements: (Starting abilities/non-elemental enhancements)
- Code:

[b]Type:[/b]
[b]Rank:[/b]
[b]Upgrade Slots:[/b]
[b]Affinities:[/b]
[b]Description:[/b]
[b]Enhancements:[/b]
Armor
Armor functions much the same as weaponry; only all armor must be individually created; with the exception of the basic village flak jackets. However, the flak jackets must still be purchased; they are not free.
D Rank: Basic boots and gloves (offer little to no protection)
C Rank: Basic cloth and leather armors (offer slightly better protection)
B Rank: Basic metal armors (chain, ring mail, chest plates) (Minimal rank for slight chakra enhancement via chakra flow)
A Rank: High quality steel or chakra metal armors; may have chakra or elemental based abilities
S Rank: Legendary armors; offer massive amounts of protection

Acids and Poisons
So... the common question for most medical Ninjutsu users and puppet users is do we allow poison? Well guess what?! We do. But, it’s a highly restricted topic, due to the amount of abuse of poisons that can be done. So, before trying to app any sort of poisons please read all of the following rules carefully. Please remember that these rules are constantly updated to reflect changes based on staff discretion, plot developments, or general updates to systems.
1. Everyone can use poison, however not everyone can make the poison. If you wish to actually make poison instead of buying it out of the Items Shop or off of another player than you must have either Medical Ninjutsu or Puppetry (please also note that players are free to charge whatever they wish when selling poisons, there are no set prices they must abide by) You may also make poisons if its part of your clan's abilities.
2. You cannot create or use a poison higher than your current rank. This means that if you wish to create an S rank poison but you only have A rank Puppetry or Medical then you will fail. It also means that if you are a Chuunin trying to use an A or S rank poison, you will be incapable of doing so.
3. Poisons below B rank are allowed, however they cannot, in any way be deadly.
4. If you are making the poisons yourself then just like jutsu there must be a thread obtaining the poison that meets the required word count, and then they must be paid for when approved.
5. Poisons go into your item registry and then your item list when approved, please do not put them into your jutsu registry/list.
Here is a list of what each poison rank should be capable of:
D Rank: Mild intoxicant. This can include poisons meant to make you feel sick, or even experience a bad "high".
C Rank: Short periods of stun or paralysis are allowed at this rank (lasting no more than 3-5 posts). Poisons can also be created at this rank to momentarily knock an opponent unconscious (for 1 to 2 posts).
B Rank: Poisons at this rank are allowed to be lethal, however it will take anywhere from 3 to 5 posts for the death to occur, leaving plenty of time for the opponent to receive medical attention. Poisons can knock an opponent out for up to 5 posts at this rank unless they receive medical attention.
A Rank: Poisons at this rank take a shorter time to kill an opponent, a total of 2 to 4 posts depending on the lethality. Poisons at this rank can also leave permanent issues (such as permanent paralysis unless treated quickly, ect).
S Rank: Poisons at this rank can kill in as little as 2 posts, leaving very little time for the opponent to receive medical attention.
SS Rank: Poisons are almost always guaranteed to be an instant kill. This is the most lethal that they come. At these ranks it is nearly if not completely impossible to recover from the effects of the poisons. (Please note that for these poisons to be insta kill abled they must be actual IRL poisons, with provided proof that they do kill that quickly, otherwise the same rules as S rank apply).
Required Word Count / Ryo
D Rank: 750 Words / 100 - 250 Ryo
C Rank: 1,000 Words / 250 - 500 Ryo
B Rank: 1,250 Words / 500 - 750 Ryo
A Rank: 1,500 Words / 750 - 1,000 Ryo
S Rank: 2,500 Words / 1,000 - 1,500 Ryo
SS Rank: 3,000 Words / 1,500 + Ryo
Please note that these guidelines are subject to change from time to time, so check on often to ensure everything is still legit.
Here is the Poison Template:
Name: Name of your Poison
Type: Offensive, Defensive, Supplementary
Rank: D - SS
Description: What does your poison do? The more detail you give, the faster an approval.
Price: How much does your poison cost?
- Code:
-
[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Type:[/b]
[b]Rank:[/b]
[b]Description:[/b]
[b]Price:[/b]
Now, please understand that here on Tales we deal with acids far differently then the way we deal with poisons.
1. Acids are D rank and higher, mostly depending on the amount of damage the acid can cause:
- D Rank: Mild Burning
- C Rank: 2nd to 3rd degree burns
- B Rank: The acid is capable of eating through flesh and cloth
- A Rank: The acid can begin to eat through wood and metals with a low melting point
- S Rank: The acid can eat through pretty much anything but rock/brick ect.
- SS Rank: The acid is unstoppable.
2. Acids must be bought from the item shop. This includes buying the appropriate container or device you wish to house the acid in. Therefore you will pay a double cost : the cost of the acid plus the cost of the container. The pricing will be done on a case by case basis as there are several things that will come into play during the pricing process.
3. For acids that exist in the real world: a link to Wikipedia or a quote from a legitimate source for the acid's power must be provided.
As with any poison or jutsu you'll need to fill out a template for your acid, post it in your item registry, and wait for it to be approved before you can move it into your Locker.
Name: What is your poison called?
Rank: D - SS
Amount: 1oz - ?
General Description: What exactly does this acid do? How much damage does it cause? What kind of damage does it cause?

Speed Based Items Guideline
Due to past experience we have come up with a guideline that we feel is fair and that will keep any sort of issues from arising up when it comes to items that boost the speed of someone’s character. These rules must be followed completely: there will be no modifying, no rule bending, and no negotiations. These rules are set in stone until such a time where the staff of Tales decides to change them.
Rank of an item matters; the higher of a speed boost you’re looking to gain then the higher of a rank the item must be. These boosts are added on to your top speed which can be found and calculated in the speed guidelines
here. Below you can find what speed is allowed at what rank.
D-Rank: +5 MPH Boost
C-Rank: +15 MPH Boost
B-Rank: +25 MPH Boost
A-Rank: +40 MPH Boost
S-Rank: +50 MPH Boost
SS-Rank: +75 MPH Boost
As with the weighs that Rock Lee himself wore these speed boosts are only effective once the weighed item is removed (or activated as the case may be). The rank of the item will depend on how many posts your speed boost will last for after the removal or activation of the item.
D-Rank: 1 Post
C-Rank: 1 Post
B-Rank: 2 Posts
A-Rank: 2 Posts
S-Rank: 4 Posts
SS-Rank: 6 Posts
No matter the sort of item you’re using it will have a ‘cooldown’ effect. This cooldown is a decrease in speed for x amount of posts that your character must suffer after using the boosted speed. This decrease does not include the increase that your item gave you and instead must be deducted from the default maximum speed that your character has. The cooldown’s per rank can be found below.
D-Rank: -10 MPH | Lasts 2 Posts
C-Rank: -30 MPH | Lasts 2 Posts
B-Rank: -50MPH | Lasts 3 Posts
A-Rank: -70 MPH | Lasts 3 Posts
S-Rank: -100 MPH | Lasts 4 Posts
SS-Rank: -125 MPH | Lasts 4 Posts
Special Note: While you’re wearing your speed enhancing item your regular speed is not taken away from: the only time your base/default speed will change is when the item is removed/activated. It’s up to you to take advantage of your speed boosts and drawbacks in a workable way.
