Mission:

Hinowagakure. It hadn't been too long ago that the family first moved into the new village. After long months of lugging around all of the family belongings, traveling from here to there, staying in hole-in-the-wall inns, taverns full of wild drunks and mercenaries, and where ever else they were allowed to rest for a limited amount of time before moving on, mostly due to some maniac, pervert or idiot, it seemed that the Yanagi's finally found somewhere they could call home. He'd spent most of a day helping to move into the large family house, where he'd have his own room finally.

The way it was told to him and his family by survivors and travelers out in the wilderness, was that Hinowa used to be another village called Korigakure. After a confrontation between several super powered criminals which resulted in numerous deaths of innocents and village security, the entire village was destroyed in one devastating blast. Those responsible were part of a criminal empire hailing from Makkuragakure, located in the Land of Shadows.

How someone managed to rebuild and restore in such a small amount of time? Kurai didn't know, and didn't care. It was still a relatively newborn village, but already Kurai could notice a rising amount of crime. Petty thugs committing small time robberies and strong arming shop owners. It seemed that someone got it into their heads that this village was ripe for the plucking, and gathering themselves  an early foothold here would pretty much guarantee them the underground market. It wouldn't be long before some so-called crime lord emerged and began claiming Hinowa for themselves...

This seemed to be the perfect time to begin sharpening his skills. The perfect time to really begin pushing himself towards his destiny. This was going to be home, and Kurai began to feel like it was his duty to protect it. Sure, other sorts of heroes and vigilantes would probably appear, but Kurai planned on being the first of them. Whoever these guys were, he planned on sending them a message.

There were already jobs to do at the mission board. His mother told him not to engage in anything serious right from the jump, even though Kurai could feel that he'd grown far stronger than the average 15 year old, mostly due to carrying around the family's belongings from place to place, but for her sake, and to avoid hearing her argue, Kurai agreed to take it easy... for now.

Apparently someone was breaking into some of the shops at night to steal candy. This night, Kurai noticed no one. He sat cross-legged on the ground before the shop, face deep within a manga. Several moved around in the shadows, thinking they were unnoticed, or perhaps thinking Kurai wasn't paying attention, but whoever it was seemed to change directions upon noticing that someone was around this time. The book was a great aid in helping the night go by quicker, and before he knew it, the sun was rising and businesses were beginning to open up for the day. The owner of the shop thanked Kurai, and he responded with but a not before moving off...
