Mission Taken:

Jinx looked down at the newest mission scroll in her hand and found that it was yet again another simple one. She wasn’t going to complain of course: it was a reason to get out of the house and away from her bitch of a mother. She knew she shouldn’t think that way but sometimes you just couldn’t help how you felt – and her mother had given her more than enough reasons to consider her such a thing. Anyway, her mission this time was to head to the library and help the elderly librarian put away some books: she was likely too old to be doing it herself an she knew the library shelves reached the very high ceiling.

Jinx didn’t waste any time in leaving the administrative building and heading to the library: it was one of her favorite places to be so she knew the route well enough. She likely could have gotten to the library from anywhere in the village blindfolded.

When she reached the library she walked in through the elegant and ornate double doors and up to the counter. She rapped her knuckles lightly on the counter top to catch the attention of the librarian who walked over. “Can I help you dear?”

“I was sent here to help you put some books away…?”, Jinx spoke in a questioning voice.

“Ah, yes. I was wondering when someone would show up. Follow me, please.” The librarian led the way behind the counter and through a tiny door that was blocked off simply with a red velvet curtain: it led to the backroom, one of the rooms that the regular library users never saw. The librarian pointed to a wooden crate in the corner. “All of those books need put away. They’re already coded so it should make your job easier. I’ll be behind the counter in case you need any help.” The librarian waited a moment to see of Jinx would have any question and when she didn’t the librarian left to go back to her paperwork, leaving Jinx to her task.

Jinx pulled over a wheeled cart and began to load it, making sure to keep everything in order so she could easily put it away. Once the cart was stacked and the crate empty she carefully wheeled it out of the room and started making her way down the aisles and aisles of books. The library was like heaven because of how peaceful it was so she took her time in putting the books away: organizing them according to the authors last names as well as what sort of book it was in regards to fiction, non-fiction, and so on and so forth.

With each aisle of books she reached the cart became lightly until finally she slipped the last remaining book onto the shelf. She pushed the cart back up to the counter, behind it, and placed it back into the storage room. She paused by the counter to wave goodbye to the librarian before she left to go turn her mission in.
